Fall Workshop – Pizza and Poetry                              

All young poets and their parents are invited to participate in Poetry in Motion, a writing workshop for middle and high school students.  Sponsored by the Thornton Arts Sciences Humanities Council, TASHCO, and administered by the Young Artists Alliance, this program is designed to assist the young writer in their exploration of the creative arts.  As an added bonus, pizza will be served.

Workshop

The Poetry in Motion workshop—taught by digital poet M.D.  Friedman—will be held Wednesday, September 11 from 5-7 pm at the Thornton Arts and Culture Center located at 9209 Dorothy Blvd.  Students will explore the art of original composition and hone their poetry skills with Mr. Friedman and classmates.  Writers-young and old are encouraged to bring their original work or concepts.  Class size is limited.  No Fee required.  Registration Deadline is September 6.

Instructor: Markiah Friedman
A noted poet and educator from Lafayette, Colorado, Mr. Friedman teaches science, creative writing, poetics, photography, marketing, digital art and web design at Catalyst High School. He has published five poetry books and won several awards and contests, including the New Zealand Poetry Society 2008 poetry contest. His spoken word performances often incorporate musical elements such as blues harmonica and sound sculpting with live effected Theremin. Mr. Friedman is the founder of the popular Internet Poets’ Cooperative web site and is the creator of a new genre of poetics called Digital Poetry. In addition, he hosts and produces a poetry cablevision program. A prolific song writer, composer and musician, Mr. Friedman performs regularly with local bands. www.mdfriedman.com
